This ground hugging plant is flowering at the moment. It's up to a foot across and seems to favour stony ground. I can't find it in any reference book but I have been told by visitors from Israel that it has some significance as a fertility symbol!

I think the plant is Mandrake. If you try to pull it up the roots are supposed to scream!! The plant has also Medicinal uses being an hypnotic and hallucinogenic . Probably not to be recommended .

Have seen this plant in Cyprus many times.I think it is Latin name Manragora Officinarum English name Mandrake.Common perennial flowers December to April.
