Apella beach, Karpathos

December 19, 2015

Apela beach.

Further up the east coast of Karpathos and again down a long road.

Heavily wooded with calabrian pines (Pinus brutia) and cypress trees (Cupressus Sempervirens horizontalis) with also the tall variety of cupressus sempervirens.

An old ruin sits under the shade of a pine tree.

Near the bottom lies an old partially restored church with many of its murals in tact.

Sternbergia lutea grows well here amongst the rocks and rubble of the hillside. You can just see the tiny Autumn squill in here too.

And finally the beach, all to ourselves again!
