A Flora and Fauna of Symi

A personal guide to the wildlife of Symi and beyond

My name is Lyndon Savage. I am a keen amateur naturalist and photographer and live on the beautiful island of Symi. I take an interest on all aspects of Symi's wildlife and my specialist subject is the avifauna or bird life that visits, is resident or migrates to and from this island.

My aim is to provide a reference or focus point for those with similar interests and an opportunity to share photographs, sightings and stories about the experiences of the wildlife that we may have encountered while visiting Symi.

I am very open to being corrected on any postings that I (or anybody else for that matter) submit to the web site, and see the task of identifying plant and bird species as a learning curve.

The task of identification is never an easy one for me so I am particularly grateful to a number of specialists that assist me from time to time. A special thanks to Lorna and Derek and their friend Rodney for their specialist knowledge in plants (Lorna and Derek have been coming to Symi for over 30 years); Matt on his superb knowledge of snakes, reptiles, frogs and the like; Richard for all things feathered and Robin for his expert knowledge of Raptors.
